Alumni

The Biotech Alumni group aims to establish, grow, and maintain a strong network between former and current D-BSSE members including staff, students, doctoral students, postdocs and professors.

One of the main objectives is the offering of an exchange platform and the fostering of a dialogue between industries and academia. Since its foundation in 2015, our organisation has shown significant growth and today we are an established part of D-BSSE and the ETH Alumni organisation.

The Biotech Alumni group hosts various events over the year, including informal social activities such as aperitif parties and BBQs, where members can expand and maintain their professional network.

Furthermore, the Biotech Alumni acts as a door opener and directly connects members with industry during company visits or presentations. Our group supports and collaborates with partner organisations such as the Verein Mittelbau D-BSSE, the Biotechnology Students Association or D-BSSE itself.

We are present at the department’s graduation ceremonies or we join social activities from our partners and support them in order to further strengthen the bond between the Biotech Alumni group and the dynamic and inspiring environment around D-BSSE.

When I first joined the D-BSSE for my master thesis in the BEL Group, my colleagues’ quality and devotion for scientific research impressed me substantially. Now that I am a part of this group as a doctoral student, I am realising how communication between the different research groups fosters an interdisciplinary environment and it strongly contributes to my scientific and personal development. In addition to that, the department offers excellent seminars and events from both academia and industry, which is helping me to find my personal career path.

Translating science into a benefit for human health is what drives my research and what motivated me to start a doctorate at D-BSSE. The department’s excellent track record in fostering entrepreneurial ideas is perfectly aligned with my ambitions to create a start-up company. The extensive network of D-BSSE and the supportive environment have boosted my entrepreneurial endeavors in many ways.
