Spatio-Temporal Modelling in Biology

To generate functional tissues and organs, embryos must be able to coordinate cell differentation and growth. The basic principles are important also in bioengineering approaches.

This course covers mathematical approaches to such spatio-temporal problems in biology. A general introduction to the biological aspects and to the physical properties of cells and tissues will be provided tailored to students with no background in biology.

The course aims at equipping students with the tools and concepts to conduct successful research in this area; both classical as well as recent research work will be discussed.

Audience:

The course assumes no background in biology but a solid foundation regarding mathematical and computational techniques.
