Polymyxin antibiotics disrupt the integrity of bacterial outer membrane by forming crystalline structures
The results of our collaborative research project with Prof. Sebastian Hiller’s Lab from Biozentrum, University of Basel, have been published in Nature Communications.
Selen Manioğlu and colleagues investigated the effect of polymyxin antibiotics on the outer membrane of bacteria using high-resolution AFM along with different biophysical techniques and biochemical assays. These findings reveal mechanistic details of the mode of action of polymyxins at a molecular level, which had been a mystery for a long time.
