Renato Paro studied and received his Ph.D. at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel. After post-doctoral stays at the University of Edinburgh and Stanford University, he continued his career at the Zentrum für Molekulare Biologie der Universität Heidelberg (ZMBH) in Germany. From 2000 he was a Full Professor and member of the directorate, acting between 2001 and 2004 as Director of the ZMBH.
In 2006 he became Professor and Founding Director of the “Center of Biosystems Science and Engineering of the ETH Zurich” in Basel as well as Professor of Biosystems at the University of Basel. In 2007 and 2008 he was the Chair of the new Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE). Renato Paro is Citizen of Birsfelden in the Kanton Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
