Project and research interests

Within the Synthetic Biology group I am involved in developing and realizing strategies for the orthogonalization of cell free system-based biotransformation modules for the efficient production of fine chemicals. More precisely, I try to solve the problem of rapid depletion of ATP -- the general phosphate donor in cell free systems -- by proteomic switches and I aim at fine-tuning kinetic parameters of enzymes involved in the biotransformation by directed evolution strategies to kinetically optimize the production pathway.

In my research I am not only interested in developing industrial relevant processes but also in the basic understanding of enzyme function and evolution in general.
