Project
As part of the Synthetic Biology group I work on the in vivo synthesis of non-canonical amino acids (ncAAs). To prevent expensive feeding of ncAAs for incorporation into proteins, the ambition of my project is to lay a solid foundation for the synthesis of these compounds in vivo from suitable precursors. My goal is to develop generalized enzymes to catalyze the final step in the biosynthesis of various ncAAs. By evolving these enzymes in a way that they have low substrate specificity towards non-canonical compounds, these enzyme can potentially serve the biosynthesis of a large number of non-canonical amino acids.
