Biography

Martin Held graduated as a technical biologist at the University of Stuttgart in 1994 and received his PhD for the development of a scaled biocatalytic process for manufacturing of fine chemicals employing and hydroxylating whole cell biocatalysts from the Institute of Biotechnology of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in 2000. He then chaired a Biotech startup company in Switzerland active in custom manufacturing of biocatalysts and high-value added compounds for pharma applications. In 2003 he went back to ETH and is now group leader of the “Technology Development and Discovery Group” at the Bioprocess Laboratory of the ETH (group of Professor Sven Panke).

While operating with an interdisciplinary team of chemists, molecular biologists, microbiologists, and engineers, research of the group focuses on the development of novel technologies and platforms for application in life science and industry.”
