InSphero AG
|
InSphero has been founded on March 26th, 2009 in
Zurich by the BEL collaborator Jan Lichtenberg, as well as Jens Kelm
(ETH and University of Zurich), Wolfgang Moritz (University of Zurich),
and Simon Hoerstrup (University of Zurich).
InSphero develops and produces advanced 3-dimensional microtissue models that mimick
the behavior and function of living organs much better than
conventional cell cultures. InSphero offers ready-to-use microtissues,
microtissue assays, and 3D cell-culture solutions, which are compatible
with existing laboratory liquid-handling robotics. A production
capacity of more than 10’000 microtissues per day and cell line is
anticipated. The costs are on the order of standard monolayer cultures.
The microtissues enable more reliable and relevant screening and validation processes for the development of drugs and biopharmaceuticals. Therefore, the main applications areas include:
InSphero is an official ETH spin-off and is supported by the Swiss Commission of Technology and Innovation, CTI, the Swiss Volkswirtschaftsstiftung, the Venture Kick business competition and private initiatives.
